Have you ever wondered whether some sexual positions are better than others for getting pregnant? Between myths and old wive’s tales, trying-to-conceive couples are almost modern day contortionists! However recent research using MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and brave couples who volunteered to be scanned while doing the deed, has highlighted that two positions: the missionary position and doggy style (being when you are on all fours) could infact benefit conception.
The MRI imaging confirms that in both of these sexual positions, the penis is able to reach the areas between the cervix and the walls of the vagina. The missionary position enables the penis to reach the recess to the front of the vagina, and the rear entry position reaches the recess at the back of the cervix. However which ever position you use, remember this is supposed to be fun, stress doesn’t directly affect your fertility, but can negatively affect your ovulation cycle, decreasing your chances of conceiving.
To Orgasm Or Not To Orgasm?
Many women wonder do they need to have an orgasm to conceive? Obviously it’s pretty crucial to the whole process that your partner reaches orgasm, however there is no evidence that the female partner needs to orgasm. The female orgasm is purely about pleasure, as it doesn’t help the sperm get to the fallopian tubes or reach that egg. Gentle muscle contractions in the uterus can push the sperm along gently, but your body does this as a matter of course. Clever body!
Can A Sexual Position Influence The Sex Of My Baby?
I’m sure you’ve heard the one where if the woman is ontop you will have a girl while if the man is on top you will have a boy? Unfortunately this just isn’t true!
After Sex Should I Stay Lying Down?
When a man ejaculates, millions of sperm are fighting their way to your egg. Lying down can certainly encourage the sperm to remain in the vagina and near the cervix. Why even raising your hips slightly can encourage the movement of the sperm through the cervix , uterus and into your fallopian tubes! Again the goal in your ‘baby-making’ journey is to have fun, and have regular fun! Having sex every two to three days increases your chances of getting pregnant within a year, if however you have been trying to conceive for a year or more without success or your menstrual cycle is irregular, please consult with your GP.
